The next phase in German e-invoicing begins in 2027
From 2027 onwards, German companies will see a shift in some of the e-invoicing requirements. Businesses that have already made changes since the 2025 implementation are encouraged to take note of what affects them and assess any missing gaps.
What to expect from the rollout
While the mandatory B2B e-invoicing commenced in January 2025, some new changes will take effect or remain in 2027:
- Any forms of unstructured e-invoice such as paper and PDF are no longer permitted for businesses with over €800,000 turnover
- All suppliers must issue e-invoices and receipts if they have over €800,000 turnover
- All EDI invoices will continue to be based on customer agreement
The mandate applies to all businesses with bookkeeping obligations, including foreign entities operating in Norway.
